In September of 2000, Mona School began in Sapele with 4 kindergarten children. As of January 2021, Mona School has 3 permanent buildings with 421 children attending.
The approach in kindergarten is that learning is interesting with hundreds of materials available to be used. The teacher presents the material to the child and the child works with those activities by his own choosing. Thus these young students become owners of their learning. At the primary level, teachers present facts from the Nigerian curriculum in various ways to ensure understanding. Other topics are discussed for general knowledge.
The majority of the teachers in Mona School are women as their role is to nurture the young ones. The staff includes three who are Montessori trained. Regular weekly-in-service training is provided to enlighten all staff.
In June of 2017, the graduating class all scored distinction in the Delta State Primary 6 School Leaving Exam. Since then it has been a norm till date.
The beautiful buildings were built by Eternit Limited. as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). The spacious field allows for sports activities, growing fruits and vegetables and raising domestic animals.
THE GIFT – LUA GARMAN
Lua Garman was born to the family of Mr. Charles and Martha Garman who took full responsibility of raising her right from the cradle. Lua as every other child required lots of love and attention in her early years. The quest to provide a nurturing and caring learning environment for her led to the birth of The Mona School we have today.
Lua Garman is the gift that keeps giving. It is because of her that Mona School for over 20years has remained a unique citadel of education that has raised countless number of children who in turn have become a beacon of hope and emblem of peace to the society they belong.
She has grown into a fine young lady in her early 20s. We remember her willingness to learn new things, her love for sharing her talent in Performing Arts by participating in singing, dancing and acting activities. We appreciate her flair for writing inspirational stories borne out of an extra-ordinary sense of imagination.
Presently, Lua has relocated with her parents to the United States of America. Even though she is far away, her heart is here with us as she still shares her ideas with the school till date.
